There’s a lot of talk about agile management these days. My « Decline and Fall of Agile » essay last November ignited the debate, which has continued with Martin Fowler’s « Flaccid Scrum » posting. InfoQ summarizes the main points of both of these posts. I’ll address each in turn. Then, I’ll give you my view of the importance of agile management. You’ll see how agile is changing business.
First, you need to make an outline. Outline your essay with a thesis and several sentences per paragraph. Spend three to four minutes on the outline. The rest of your time should be used to write your essay. Only 1-2 minutes should be reserved for proofreading. That way, your essay will be flawless and polished before its deadline. You can follow these tips to write a quality essay in half the time. And remember that the agile essay can be a great example of a well-written essay.
The Agile Method changes the way people work. Instead of a single discipline contributing, cross-functional teams work collaboratively to deliver a quality product. The team establishes its own standards for usability, quality, and completeness. It’s all about trust and collaboration among team members. Although the project owner or product owner has the final decision, the team chooses how the work gets done. This approach doesn’t have any rituals or ceremonies. Instead, it encourages continuous improvement and tight feedback cycles.
Software development has undergone many « revolutions » in the past sixty years. But these improvements have been only marginal. The time for a true software development revolution is long overdue. In this essay, I’ll introduce the concept of the Great Art. Until now, software development has been thought of as a scientific-engineering discipline. Yet, object-oriented programming, agile, and so on were viewed as engineering disciplines. But these approaches don’t truly represent the « Great Art » of software development.
When implementing an Agile-based process, it is essential to realize that the implementation of the framework is merely a tool. The framework is only as good as the organization’s commitment to it. Agile should only be implemented when the goals of the organization fall within its paradigm. So, how does an Agile-based project management process actually help? The answer lies in the commitment of the project managers and the team. The team members are the true heroes in this process, not the software.
The Agile Manifesto stresses the importance of human factors, interactions, and collaboration, with the customer as an essential element. Adaptability is a must. Customer collaboration is essential, so you need people who are skilled and experienced. And the customer needs to be able to adapt as the product evolves. It is this flexibility that makes the Agile method so attractive. Its advantages are clear compared to the traditional methodology, which lays out requirements and delivers a completed solution at the end of the life cycle.
